Road is an important part of the National route N6, also known as the Central Corridor, which connects Accra to Gonokrom at the Ghana-Cote d’Ivoire border. The Apedwa-Ejisu section of this road is a 13.5 km stretch that passes through several towns and villages. The road is currently a single-carriageway with an average width of 12.3m and is in good to fair condition. However, due to urbanization and population growth in the area, the road has become congested with heavy traffic, causing safety concerns for drivers and pedestrians.
Several studies have been conducted to address the issues of traffic congestion and road safety on the Apedwa-Ejisu Road. The studies recommended the construction of a bypass to avoid the built-up area of Konongo. This new route will specifically reroute heavy trucks to Kumasi and beyond, without interference from local traffic. The construction of the bypass is expected to increase the capacity of the road and improve road safety for all users.
The ADK Consortium has been appointed as the Engineer on the project to ensure that the construction is sound and executed according to design standards and specifications. The ADK Consortium is working with two indigenous contractors who have shown their expertise in road construction across the country. Daily supervision of works on both lots of the project is being carried out by the ADK Consortium to ensure quality control.
